Default GeForce FX 5900 - Temperature Range

Doing some tests on my replacement Gainward (Golden Sample) 5900. Not using
the 'enhanced' mode (overclocked).

According to the nVidia Temperature driver sheet, it seems to idle, at
desktop, in the 48-50C range (ambient temperature around 34C), and just now
(playing Dark Age of Camelot, 1024x768, 4x AA) I saw it peak at around 80C.

Now, I know the throttling temp is set at 120C. But it still -seems- to me
like it's just running more on the hot side than I would expect.

Anything to worry about?

Fans on the video board are spinning. New Antec TrueBlue powersupply with
intake fan above CPU and output fan on back, all spinning happily. Case has
another output fan above that, and two large intakes that are over the video
board/CPU area. Lotta airflow in this box. CPU (P4 2.6) idle temp is
around 90C.

Thoughts? Thanks.

~ Rich

The first thing I would advise is for you to check your internal airflow.
The easiest way to do that is to take off the left side cover (assuming you
have a tower PC) and check the temperatures again and see if they go down
considerably after a few minutes. If so, then you need to tie back your
cabling and see what is obstructing the airflow.

Make that, CPU idle temperature of 90F, not C.

Sorry. That would be rather warm for idle.

Thanks for the reply. I did so, and it doesn't appear to affect
temperatures at all. The inside of my machine is pretty clear for airflow,
and has a lot of air whooshing out of the box when it's sealed up tight
(which is to say, air being pushed out from the fan action).

Are the temperatures I've listed too hot for that (GeForce 5900 (non-Ultra)
Gainward Golden Sample) board?
