Zebra Label Printer won't stop printing
Hi
We have a Zebra S4M label printer which prints small batches of labels OK, but when requested to print larger jobs (print queue size of 128K), it continuously reprints the same labels until the printer is turned off or print queue cleared. The print queue shows, for example, the job as printing 128/210K, but the job never clears the queue. The printer is using the latest driver for the model and is connected to a network via ethernet connection. If the same print job is redirected to a laser printer on the same network, the job prints fine. Any help would be appreciated. |

You don't give details on the brand of print server, whether it's external or internal, if it was supplied with the printer or added. Or what operating system you're using, for that matter. External print servers attached to a parallel port can have handshake problems with some parallel ports. These problems will show up only when the job size exceeds the printer's buffer RAM, which sounds like the problem you're having. Here's a post I made years ago about a similar problem on a JetDirect connected to the parallel port of an Oki impact printer: http://groups.google.com/group/comp....2?dmode=source The details may be different for your print server. -- Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota * USA |

The print queue is located on a windows 2000 server machine. The printer is connected to the network via its own inbuilt ethernet adapter. Thanks |

The next thing to try would be to connect the printer via parallel or USB and see if the problem persists. I looked at the Zebra web page but didn't see anything showing it as a known problem. If the printer is new, check with the supplier or Zebra. -- Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota * USA |

If the printer is new, check with the supplier or Zebra. If there is an option to enable bi-directional support on the printer properties on the server, you could try enabling that If your printer (driver) supports it, this should allow the printer tell the server when the job has finished. Or alteratively you could try ticking the box print directly to the printer. Which means the printer itself will have to handle any queue. So it will probably print more slowly. |
