2T HDD cheap/cheaper/cheapest
$49
Or so they're popping up today, Seagate probably being the instigator. Model changes or what not sure the motive or what discrepancies between older/newer models I encountered from a model# WEB search Couple bucks tax and that's it (if on newer is applicable). Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch (ST2000DM008) The 7200 may be another [mis]direct marketing ploy on these being actually 5400 drives. Appears to be a basic consumer oriented drive with a 2-yr. warranty. Seagate warranty: Which can be Suck City if looking through negative encounters, ratings and reviews of late with Seagate RMA treatment policy. Better/good news is they're showing up on the prime jobbers, and not their middlemen. You'll get noted or premier service in complaint issues, rather than being shuffled off into a no-mans-land of middlemen marketing under the premier storefront placard. Up to a point, where Seagate takes over -- best verify the drive serial# that you're in Seagate's database. OEM middleman merchants don't carry kowtow with Seagate, or WD, and a warranty is kicked backed to the OEM source, if any then. Prime merchants are specified so by HDD licensing and rights to sell within honored conditions and terms of ongoing support. Last and not least: If you want voluminous marketing and reviews there's only this and the other "place of colours" to go to. - Say, your moma don't dance and your dada don't r&r. Where do you go? |

Since my last WD 2T failure, in an unrelated sense, is a Class Action Lawsuit WD occurred from IT industry and collectives. HDD ROM routines may be more apt, of late, and in general to shut down drives, into various power-saving hibernation states and schemes. The lawsuit alleged premature stress on the HDD and subsequent failure rates. A FLASHROM.BIN, WD released, was incidental to a ostensible result. A consideration is then provided, furthermore, in the form of newer MB software monitoring utilities. They have, besides pages upon pages of sensor readouts, SMART poll logging facilities. The best among AMD hardware support would;- I cannot claim to have run with Intel advancements in a dog's age. The monitoring interval user assignments, in particular, can be set to override what firmware repercussions may or not signify in overall expected longevity. Anyway, the HDD SMART poll does manage to physically accesses the HDD, in a requisite state of non-hibernation, prior to perform its report and subsequently by negating the firmware. Thus saving having to write your own routine, in case you're an adherent (plaintiff) to IT interests. |

None of which in a latter instance carry a warranty for what is purportedly being sold, apart OEM assurances and conditions when stipulated. Judging from reactions, there's nonetheless a ready market for premature failures on chance conditions to a non-Seagate replacement. Must be a SSD market that's fueled this sort of side attraction in platters. |
