Removable hard drive trays

As a follow-up to "Removable Hard drive bay problems anyone?",
I checked the hard drives at the UCLA PC labs which still have
them (those not upgraded in the past 24 months). The motherboard
specs for the PCs (Gateway E4000 series) indicate IDE channel
speeds of 66/100MB/s. The hard drives themselves are ATA/133,
so the resulting data rate is probably 100MB/s.

The lab manager (who is a new guy) says there haven't been any
reported problems of data corruption with the removable trays,
but he also says that they haven't done any error tests. He got
very defensive when I mentioned that they violated the IDE cable
specs, so I didn't push the subject. A lab tech whose idea they were
in the first place said that they were a solution when their hard drive
capacities were only 4GB.

i've been using removable drive trays for at least 3 years now
(just cheapies) and have not had any problems with them

I have been using removable drive trays (Kingwin) with no problems.
They are much longer than a normal CD drives which is a serious
consideration. I have one computer that there is not sufficient room to
use them. Another computer I can only put them in the top bays.
