Default Lesser 8000 Series Cards?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that NVIDIA would be coming out with
lesser chipsets in the 8000 series for those who don't want or need the
power of the 8800 cards.
Does anybody here have any information, or a link, that addresses what may
be forthcoming, and when?

Thanks in advance.

April 17, according to Dailytech:
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=6825

However, at these performance levels, the cards will be DX10-compliant on
paper only. They will be too slow to actually handle any of the DX10 games:

Er, exactly where in this article did you find this particular
conclusion ? They only used Dx9 games in their tests!! Can't very
well come to a conclusion on something you did not test..........
Seems as if the performance on these Dx9 games is right in line with
the price expectations and should obsolete all existing Dx9 cards in
the same (MSRP) price range. Expect fire-sale prices on non-Dx10 cards
throughout the summer.

Let's be real here. Any game written to take advantage of DX10 visuals is
gonna be more demanding than current DX9 games. Previously, midrange cards
like the 6600GT could eclipse the flagship cards from the previous
generation (FX5900/Radeon 9800). Here the 8600GTS is just on par with the
X1950 Pro, and much slower than the X1950XT (which sells for $199 *right
now*).

"Fire-sale prices on non-Dx10 cards throughout the summer", if indeed true,
would give a very compelling reason to buy one over the lesser 8x00 cards.
:-)

These new cards are to be released to the retail channel in a very short
time.
