Default Problem with ATI Radeon 9000 and Castle Wolfenstein

I hope someone here can help me.

First I'll tell you the system I'm running:

Soyo K7ADA MB
AMD Athlon 1900+ XP
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 video card
SoundBlaster Live PCI card
Win XP Home
o all with latest drivers and updates.

When I install RtCW it will run (single player mode) as long as I don't
interrupt it to change any settings or bypass any scenes. But, once I try
to change settings the game freezes and the next thing I see (on my monitor)
is "no signal present", then I have to reboot and try again. Once it has
begun crashing everytime I start it up it will surely freeze within a minute
or so, freezing my computer with it.

I've called ATI Tech Support and they tried to help with the usual obvious
things (latest drivers, uninstall/reinstall drivers and game, etc.) and we
even made changes to the video and sound card settings trying to resolve the
problem. Finally the tech told me to download the 1.4 update and that
should take care of it. I got it and still have the same problem.

I really believe that it is a problem with my card and the game because a
couple of times, when I rebooted, Windows displayed a message saying that
Windows closed because of a problem with the Radeon 9000 driver.

I really hope that I don't need to get another card. BTW, each time I
uninstall and reinstall RtCW it will run well (as long as I don't try to
change any options) until the first freeze/crash and then it's back to the
"cycle".

thanks in advance,
Lou
