Default Trouble free ATI 9800 install - super easy

Thought Id post this just in case anyone was paranoid about buying
installing an ATI card. Ive read lots of horror stories simililar to
the ones you see on all products from a certain percentage of users.

I was a bit paranoid since posts from 6 months ago frequently talked
about getting the right power supply for an ATI or it wouldnt run ,
cleaning out all your old drivers and installing the ATI drivers in a
certain way or it wouldnt work at all. Also stuff about a weird power
supply connection.

I bought the ATI retail pack and it had a pretty standard ps plug. I
also didnt follow the instructions and just put the card in the slot
and then started it up without uninstalling the Nvdia card drivers.
Win XP actually adjusted automatically and installed some generic ATI
9800 drivers. Maybe its because by now they have updated WIN XP with
updates so everhthing was so smooth. I then later uninstalled the NVDA
software and and installed the ATI drivers. Super easy with zero
problems so far.

Of course I didnt test it on games yet so I might be whining about
that if there are a lot of problems. What a relief though after
reading all those scare stories.

The next test is whether my old Pinnacle Pro tuner TV card works with
the ATI 9800 since some cards arent supposed to work with them.

One weird thing - theres a kind of diagnostic prog that comes with it
after installing and warns you about some stuff. It said DMA may not
be enabled and that Direct X 8.1 wasnt properly isntalled.

Below the warnings it lists the things that are OK and it lists Direct
9 is installed ! And that All the DMA settings are enabled on my HDs
! Not too slick. I think it made a mistake because it thinks my Canon
printer is a "storage device" and DMA isnt enabled on it.

Also gives me a warning about how my soundcard (the onboard one on my
ASUS a7n8x deluxe) isnt way off but still not totally up to snuff in
terms of syncing with with my video card or something so that it may
affect video captures.

Im using an ANTEC 400 watt PS so that may be one reason why it went so
smoothly or maybe not. Who knows.
