My toner light came on and I'm experiencing a light grey streak going
down the center of the page. Does anyone have an idea if this is all created by the toner being low or did the fuser go bad at the same time? Would this have anything to do with the imaging drum? Secondly, I have around 60,000 impressions on this machine. I know that's low, but would it be better to invest in a newer machine than to stick new parts in here? Please advise. Jeff Ess |

Take the toner out and shake it gently from side to side. Reinstall it and you're probably good for a while longer. Secondly, I have around 60,000 impressions on this machine. Odds are good that you don't need anything more than new toner. However, a fuser can be had for $89 from printerworks.com if you swap them the bad one. Or there's a maintenance kit with fuser and rollers for $129. -- Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota * USA Warren, Thank you for the quick response! Very appreciated! So, a toner cartrige can make a grey skid mark acoss the center of the page? Good to know. Thanks for the heads up and the contact information. It sounds like a no brainer. I'm going to order the parts. Thanks! Much appreciated. Jeff Ess p.s. Here's my website: www.gestalt.tv If you ever need to have any branding done. |

Hi!
So, a toner cartrige can make a grey skid mark acoss the center of the page? Yes, it sure can. Toward the end of a toner cartridge's useful life, the toner isn't always distributed evenly. Fuser problems include lack of heat (toner is "loose" when touched), possibly repeating marks on the page or even too much heat. Too much heat can cause scorching of the paper or toner. Here's my website: www.gestalt.tv If you ever need to have any branding done. No offense intended to your website (or you!) but have you ever considered just using HTML and less Flash, or even offering an HTML only version? Navigation seemed somewhat difficult, and I didn't really like being forced to wait for every...single...animation to finish before I could read what was being said. William |

William I couldn't agree with you more. I'm in the middle of redesigning it. That site was designed in 2002. Looking forward to having the new one up in the next few months. I know the site is cumbersome. Thanks for your opinion and you ideas for my printer. Jeff |

Jeff Ess As Warren has said the likely problem is the toner cartridge. However just to be su- you say the line goes down the page (top to bottom), is this an A3 or an A4 (or Letter page)? This is an important distinction. Also is the mark always in the same part of the page. The fuser should last more than 300,000 pages in normal circumstances, sometimes they will last up to 400,000 pages or more. HP recommends replacement at 350,000 pages but this is really only a guideline. Tony MS MVP Printing/Imaging Tony, Thanks for the reply! The toner marks are not top to bottom they travel horizontally across the page. On a 8.5" x 11" the travel 8.5" across the page. The streak is about 3" in width and 8.5" inches in length. I've had the printer for 5 years and the current page count in the "event log" is 77,072 exactly. From what I understand, it sounds like all I need is toner, correct? Thanks for all of your time.
