Default Which mid range graphics card?

Upgrading to AMD XP 2800 Barton on (possibly) an Asus A7N8X Delux Mobo and
512 Mb mem
I'm not a gamer.
Currently looking a something like the MSI GeForce FX5600 256 mb
I'd be glad of comments/advice/opinion ref a decent graphics card.
Thanks.

Look at the newer FX5700, instead.

You probably don't need 256mb on the graphics card. Tests show that for
most cards, 128mb works just as well as 256mb, even for the serious
gamer. There are usually four versions of each video card, increasing in
price and performance. The standard versions of the 5600 from nvidia and
9600 from ATI suck arse, and you'd be as well off performance wise
buying the much cheaper 5200 or 9200 based cards, respectively. However,
the 5600 PRO, Ultra, and XT versions are good. From what I've seen, Pro
and Ultra cards of the 5600 are pretty similar in performance. The XT is
the top of the range, and it stands out performance wise. I guess it
really depends on how good you want that infrequent game to look and
play! :-) The basic cards will perform your office and photo editting
apps just fine, at a much reduced price.

Ok, many thanks all - am slowly coming to the conclusion I don't need such
an advanced card - something like a NvidiaFX5200 or Radion9200 would
probably suffice.
Thanks again.

for not being a gamer, you picked a pretty good card, there are
better, don't get me wrong, but that one will run any game out now
