Default New 512MB memory only likes slot 1?

My Socket A motherboard has 2 memory slots and I upgraded my computer
to 1 gig. What is weird is the new 512MB PC2700 memory (K-byte brand)
only works if its in slot 1. After numerious reseatings and cleaning
dust out of slot 2 with no luck in getting the memory recognized I
moved the old 512MB PC2700 memory into slot 2 and the new memory into
slot 1 and it works. Do some brands of memory only like slot 1?

You have a marginal memory module. Slot 1 is closer to the CPU so the
timings are slightly better. I bet if you dropped the clock rate down to
133MHz (PC 2100) it would work fine. In the future buy from Crucial.
