Default Annoying nView Desktop Manager problem

A little background first... I use the nView Desktop Manager quite a bit
to help me keep my windows organized. I set up multiple virtual
desktops, and use one for e-mail/web, one for editing code, one for
testing/debugging, one for SSH/VNC/X sessions connected to remote
machines, and so on. I assign hotkeys to allow me to quickly switch
between desktops, move windows between desktops, etc... it really helps
keep things organized, and reduces clutter on the taskbar.

Now for the problem. It seems that for all nVidia driver versions 52.xx
and later, the Desktop Manager is completely broken when it comes to
Windows Command Prompt and Cygwin shell windows. Any command prompt or
shell windows *must* be visible on *all* virtual desktops at once; there
is no way to collapse them to a single virtual desktop. I can assign a
"Collapse To Desktop" hotkey, but it has absolutely no effect on these
windows. After futzing around for about an hour trying to get it to work
properly with the 53.03 and 52.16 drivers, I gave up and reverted to the
45.23 Dets.

Does anyone else use this feature, and know of a way to get it to work
properly with the newer (52.xx or 53.xx) ForceWare drivers?

Mike,

I'm afraid I can't help you with your problem as I am new to nView, and
struggling myself. I was hoping you might help me with mine.

I have set up two desktops - the default and one called PIC. All the
desktop icons on the default desktop show up on the PIC desktop. I was
under the impression that I could place different icons on different
desktops. Have I missed something?

I have a dual head card (5200) with driver version 5.2.1.6.

Thanks,

Vic

It appears that this is not supported either. All icons appear on all
desktops.

I intend to look for 3rd party virtual desktop software, to see if there
is anything better out there.

I'm with you, Mike, about the 3rd party product. The poster after your last
post said to look for "MIRROR..." in the nView settings. I have V 52.16 and
didn't anything remotely resembling "MIRROR..."

Good luck.

What's MIRROR? I can't find anything close to MIRROR in nView settings. I
have V 52.16. Maybe it's the wrong version????

Run DriverCleaner over your machine and install the 53.03s (53.04s if you're using
WinME/(x).

Mike,

I called nVidia and PNY about all this. It's true the current drivers do
not support different icons on different desktops (they all seemed puzzled
that it didn't work). The PNY guy actually researched and called me back!
Looks like the 3rd party product is a must. I found one called MultiDesktop
2003 that seems to work pretty well. Costs $20.

Good luck,

Vic
