Agree. Reinstalling Windows is not necessary. Just use the route that is
already built into windows for uninstalling and installing hardware. 1) Uninstall the drivers using the Control Panel "Add Remove Programs", 2) Uninstall the device in Device Manager, 3) Shut down and physically remove the uninstalled device, 4) Replace it with the new device, 5) Start your machine and let Windows detect your new device and install the drivers for your new device. But, and this is a big But, cancel the request by Windows to install the drivers for a new video card and let windows finish starting. Then install the latest drivers for your ATI or Nvidia card that you downloaded from their site. You will not have a problem. Unless of course, your Windows installation is already compromised somehow, in which case not matter what you do, you will have problems. Then you will probably have to use the Detonator Destroyer drivers, or other special cleanup tools to clean up the mess. Or, you may have to reinstall Windows. JK "Darthy" wrote in message ... If i were the OP, i would indeed use some registry cleaner... Myself, i usually reinstall windows after i swap a MAIN component (vid card/mainboard) Uninstalling the NVidia drivers worked for me... For the hell of it, I left them ON, then swapped out cards and installed CAT3.9 - game play was JeRkY... every game played like crap. Uninstalled NVidia, reinstalled DX9 - everything is nice and friendly. -- Remember when real men used Real computers!? When 512K of video RAM was a lot! Death to Palladium & WPA!! |
