ATI 9600 pro and CounterStrike performance help needed
My son has an Intel 850 mb, 1.8 p4, 384 mb rdram 800, 30g 7200/100 Maxtor
running DMA mode 5. I built the pc for his Xmas present year before last. He recently had problems with his GeForce 2 card...the fan went out and I believe damaged the card. I repl the fan, but no help. Jaggies and choppiness prevailed. I bought the ATI branded 9600 pro, and his frame rate will not go above 60, and seems slower than the GF2. The old GF2 drivers were uninstalled, the card removed, the new card installed with the latest Catylyst drivrs. All of his friends get 100 fps. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike -- __________________________________________________ ________ "There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. Thanks, Frank! I'll have him try that today when he gets home. I don't know
if he's aware of that ability in console. Is there some special command syntax, or is it just an option to toggle? Mike "Frank Weston" wrote in message ... Turn off vsync and set fpsmax to 100 in Counterstrike console. "Maintane" wrote in message news My son has an Intel 850 mb, 1.8 p4, 384 mb rdram 800, 30g 7200/100 Maxtor running DMA mode 5. Just bring down console with the "~". Type fps_max, and it will show you
the value currently set. Next type "fps_max 100" to set fps_max to 100. You can also edit the config.cfg file in Sierra/Counter-strike/cstrike/ to add the line fps_max 100. There may well be a line in there right now that limits your fps. Just setting fps_max to 100 wil not guarantee fps of 100, but will allow you to attain whatever performance your system is capable of up to 100. Also, make sure you go into your Display Properties advanced settings and in the Open GL tab set "wait for vertical sync" to off. While you're in Display Properties, set your monitor refresh frequency to the highest speed available for your adapter resolution. You should get 100 fps. I did with a 9000 Pro running with an XP2100+ processor at the highest resolution my monitor could run. "Maintane" wrote in message m... Thanks, Frank! I'll have him try that today when he gets home.
