Default Recommendations for online custom PC builders??

A freind of mine has asked me to build a computer for her family.
Because of some time issues, I can't take on the request right now, and
have recommended we take her budget and go to one of several online
custom configuration/builders.

At the moment I'm leaning towards httP:www.mwave.com and
http://neocomputers.com

If anybody has any enthusiastic recommendations for other custom
configurable online sources, I'd be interested in hearing about them.
The family has some pretty well defined user requirments, and I have
better than average knowledge of ability to make smart technical
choices...just no time to devote to the building at this time.

Anyway...your recommendations are solicited (I am looking forward to the
chance to apply somebody else's relatively generous budget to this
task!)

Thanks in advance.

Unless you have some very special requirements and plan on getting
into/upgrading her families box frequently you really cannot beat
Dell. Their massive purchasing power gets them components far
cheaper, plus they have a 3 yr warranty.

I recommend reading customer reviews on each company at
www.resellerratings.com. We are constantly ranked near the
top (out of over 4700 companies!) for Customer Satisfaction,
Likelihood of Future Purchases, Technical Support and Return/Replacement.

Thanks. I avoid Dell/HP/Gateway et. al (except for laptops) for a number
of reasons. One of the ways they can discount prices is by bulk
purchasing. While this does certainly provide some advantages for
pricing, this can result in end users forced to use components that may
not be suited for their particular needs. All of these vendors also have
the unfortunate tendency to drift towards proprietary hardward and
software soulutions (like the Dell power supply situation and the
amazing practice of providing a "recovery disk" instead of an actual
copy of the OS.)

In this case, I'm fortunate to be working with a generous budget (of
somebody elses!), a long lead time, and an informed user who has some
very well defined needs (get one kid through the last 3 years of HS
production, keep a budding gamer happy and let Mom work on her digital
photography activities).

A couple of folks have suggested reseller ratings, a site I use often,
as a QC step. I'm probably headed to mwave.com or one of a couple of
local shops for a custom build, but just wanted to see if there were any
other hidden gems out there....
