Default Anyone ever resurrect a dead fan on a powersupply...

My Proliant 6400 ate a power supply last week (leaving me in a single PS
configuration for the time being -- no spares right now).. Anyway, is it
worth my time & effort to take apart the bad supply and see if I can get
the fan running again or should I fork over my hard-earned $10 for a new
one (+ shipping of course)..

Also -- for those of you that runs these things in your basement or garage,
what are you using (assuming they're rack-mounted) to distribute power to
all boxes in your config? I can't justify a dedicated circuit for a PDU
but it would be nice to have something like that without the dedicated part
-- perhaps a "PU"? Is it good enough to bolt on a powerstrip and be done
with it for us non-professional types or is there something better I should
be on the look out for?

i have resurrected dead power supplies from the old PL4000/4500 era ...
there is a fuse that was 'unofficially' user serviceable.

but, thats about all I have done with them .

I got 2 RPS units for my 6400's, $5 each,+ $12 shipping, or some such thing.
was a long time ago.

im ready to dump my 6400's so I can get smaller units to build a cluster
with at the CoLo.

Just lighting up my new Opteron 175 Vista workstation .... Daddy Likey!

This one doesn't appear to have anything obviously wrong with it
and the fan is not stuck or anyting (I can see it wiggle around)..
Might be worth the 5 minutes to take it apart and check the fuse.

Yup.. That'll be the backup plan..

That's the nice thing about the newer stuff I guess -- smaller and better..
