Ancient Compaq Proliant 1850R Server
Boot to SmartStart, do a system erase, then reboot to smartstart and go
through an assisted install. If you still get the 1775 error, do the following (in order) - Check the SCSI cable and and connections - Try the array controller in another PCI slot - Replace the cable or the disk cage / backplane "krubb" wrote in message oups.com... Alright, I was able to get into the SS5.5 utility once. I tried to go through and setup some things but it kept giving errors whenever it tried to execute something. Eventually I rebooted the server and I got the option for quick setup (F10). Went into that and it was doing its thing until I went to exit the utility to start with the OS install...I got another error and now when I reboot the server I get the same error I have always gotten: 1775-Slot 4 Drive Array - Proliant Storage Encloser not responding scsi Port 1: Check storage enclosure power switch and cables 1785-Slot 4 Drive Array Not Configured No Drives Detected Scanning for SCSI Devices...No SCSI Devices Detected Press "F1" key to continue "F10" key for system Partition Utilities At this point it does not matter what I press because the next thing I see is Non System disk detected blah blah blah.... Are the SCSI drives supposed to be formated already? I am not sure at what point I get the drivers for installing to OS (the F6 part in the process). Thanks for the help so far. Krubb |

I had already posted that I found the file but thanks for posting
anyway. Nice to see so many people have the same server I do. I am still fighting with it when I get the chance. I will definately post back with any progress/problems so stay tuned. |

Since I have to of the same servers (almost, different version of the
SCSI controller in the other one) I had pretty much planned on swapping some parts around to see if that makes a difference. I will post back with whatever results I get. However, work is a bit busy right now so do not expect much too soon. Hopefully, I can get a little bit done tomorrow. |

Nonononon It's just that Proliant servers are sufficiently well designed that you can apply the same sort of troubleshooting and installation reasoning to just about any HP / Compaq Proliant server. That makes it fairly easy to apply Proliant 2000 expertise to a Proliant 1850, and a lot of it carries through to something like a DL760g2. |

Ancient Compaq Proliant 1850R Server
Alright, I have checked the scsi connections, moved the controller to a
different PCI slot, and replaced the cable and disk cage (swapped out from the other server I have). I think the issue is something more than that. No matter what I do it always tells me that it can not detect any SCSI devices. When I run the flash wipe out utility that I created from the smart start CD it seems like everything is fine. I cycle the power but it is the same thing. Smart Start will not run with out giving me errors. Is there something I am missing regarding termination with this old server. Each drive I have has 10 pins on the back. The left most four and right most four have a single jumber on each of them leaving the middle 2 pair exposed. Any thoughts about this? I have even tried another SCSI controller (Smart-2/P) and that has not made a difference. Thanks for your time. Krubb |

Krubb With the disks connected to the array controller, you will not see an enumerated list of SCSI devices. The controller obsucres that. When you run the Array Configuration Utility you will see the SCSI drives that are connected to the controller and you will be able to create your array volumes. DL smart start and it will walk you through the process. Do a system erase first to get everything wiped clean before you begin. - LC |

Please try what we do; put the Smart (2DH or 2P) controller in a desktop PC (preferably an 'ordinary' PII or PIII with a reasonable BIOS -- an HP BRIO is a good choice for example -- , remove your drive cage (and power supply if necessary) and connect them all together with _different_ scsi cables and terminators to begin to narrow the diagnosis. Be sure to have the drive setup specs handy (for any jumpers). This will isolate any problems to the subsystem in question independently of the vagaries of the server platform. You can configure the Smart controller and any drives (or arrays) with the standalone Array Config Util. When this is all working you can easily migrate the subsystem back into a server. I've found this procedure to be effective. Regards, Michael Grigoni Cybertheque Museum |

"krubb" wrote in message oups.com... I have ran Smart Start several times. Each time I get the same errors that I think are related to the SCSI drives not being detected. I ran the system erase to get everything wiped out and after I cycle the power I am right back where I started. I am away from the server now but if I get a chance I will post some of the errors I am getting from Smart Start. Krubb please post the error you are receiving |
