1.4 Althon or latter xp?
Hi
I have a Duron 700, m/board says it will goto 1.4 NOT XP tho... Its not a bad puter, dvd, burner etc, plays thee games i want, just a coupl out that need more mhz.....but wondering should say i get a new xp2000 system, maybe a 1800 at a low price? IS there much differance between a older chip and the newer xp chips that isnt just mhz increase. I belive the duron 700 is a Spitfire, seen here a bit higher can be o/clocked to about 1.3 I cant afford the just out stuff. I also have a amd350, scsi setup etc so useful but is this the same way to o/clock as the duron would be? would rather first time try it on that then screw up the latter! Thanks! |

If you're not much of a tweeker, buy an ECS/XP combo from Fry's electronics. They typically have an xp2000-xp2200 with motherboard for less than 100 dollars. Well worth the upgrade from your Duron. I went from a Duron 1000 to an XP2100 and for games it was a major improvement. The newer XP chips are much more powerful than the pre-morgan Duron cores. |

They all clock the same. Multiplier x FSB = cpu clock. thanks -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.html |

Jetway, mislaid the manual but read it many times, and the web(glooked for newer bios) and it stated no xp That doesn't mean anything. Go to the Abit site and see what it says about my KT7-Raid. I'll state with about 99.99% certainty that it will run an XP CPU. Any of them, including Barton cores. The only one I would have doubts about would be the original AMD 750 chipset. One person had problems with it an an XP, and I'm not sure if they found the problem. It should work too. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.html Thanks, i will install some software to grab the m/board specs and give another shout. If it ok for another 8 or months until i really need a much bigger system then all the better |

The 1.4Ghz T/bird is a seriously good CPU for the budget minded.... If your m/b can take one, then grab it.... Get a good fan and heatsink though as they can get warm... |

Thanks, i cant really afford a new puter yet, and i thought a a 1.4 may notbe far behind a XP1800/2000 i guess the latter would be later tech with better gubbins etc so its not jsut a case of more mhz. Im looking at building a new system soon bit by bit, great chip and mobo and add bits over time. You are in a similar boat as I am, and no doubt, many others too... That boat is called the "I want,, but I don't need" boat... I want to get another CPU myself... I have an XP2000+ (updated from a 1.4 T/bird last year), but I will need another m/b too as the A7M266 Asus has reached its limits with the XP2000 and I want a CPU as close to 3 Ghz as I will be able to afford in the coming weeks... I thought about getting a 2500 a few days ago but that would be very little actual increase over my present CPU's horsepower... Of course the only thing I can do now is put some pennies away for the coming "purchase" day.... Man,,, this is a path I walked many times in the past... Cheers and good luck... |

Yes and i hate it when people say get a new mobo and chip, although i can see there point.....if i did i would have a chip n mobo gathering dust, and i get this to a 1.4 which is more then a i need for for time being, when i do get a new machine i can just add to my 5 pc lan and have 2 decent puters for gaming battles. |
