won`t boot up?????
- bren stood up, at show-n-tell, and said: i turned my computer on today and it won`t boot up, it powers up ok then stops at the makers logo(packard bell) You just stated the problem (HP). pressing f8 or delete to enter the bios and i`ve even tryied jumping the cmos but nothing works. could it be a dead hard drive or something Read, above. Seriously, HP's are not very well regarded by those that build their own. They are on par (quality-wise) with the likes of Gateway and Compaq (same company, now). Can't help you, as it's a very proprietary system. Get a Dell, next time. Any ideas thanks Brendan -- Strontium "Shortcuts are self-defeating. Mean. Have you checked all the ribbon and power cables? Have you listened to see if the hard drive is actually spinning up? |

Let's see..... You're posing this question to a 'homebuilt' group. Do I
have this right? And, you have the where-withall to be a smartass? Heh! Welcome to usenet. Hope you enjoy your compaq..... Now, let's talk about YOU. Shall we? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... not much to say, really. You, obviously, can't read (either that, or just a rude, obnoxious person that could care less about being ON topic). Last, but not least, you ask for help...then flame in reply to reply. All I can say to that (and others that have used this medium for quite a while will agree), is that you are a moron. - bren stood up, at show-n-tell, and said: Thanks for the answer. now if someone who knows something about computers got any ideas it would be great thanks Brendan "Strontium" wrote in message ... Strontium: The OP is correct. He asked for help about his Packard Bell and
your advice was to buy a Dell. There's no need to turn this group into another alt.os.windows-xp. OP: If you see the Packard Bell screen the PC is trying to boot. Try disconnecting hd, fd, cd, etc and reboot to the bios. If you get to the bios, connect the fd and boot to Memtest86 to check your memory. Possible causes of your problem dying memory, psu, hd or bad cable connections. Verify in your manual that F8 is the only key to get to your bios as I some of those older PC needed F8+Shift.
