Graphic problems with Catalyst 3.6 and OpenGL (Jedi Knight II)
Hi NG!
I just dug up Jedi Knight II and started playing it. This is so far my first OpenGL game for a while. The last time I played it I had a Geforce 4. Now I own a Radeon 9700 Pro and the game gives me some weird problems with the character shadows. Not the shadows on the ground but the shadow effects on the bodies. It's hard to explain but some polygons that are in the shadow are bright and some polygons in the light are dark. It looks quite irritating. Has anyone a clue what can be done? The latest patch is already installed. Is this a common OpenGL problem? Thanks for your help! Chris |

If shadows are on, the shadow effects on the faces are incorrect. It looks like the polygons are getting lit wrong, causing weird black triangles to travel where the shadow is supposed to be. Guess it's only with OpenGL games this happens.. I'm using Omega 3.6 cats btw with a 9700 pro. Pluvious |

If it even happens with new games and also with the Omega drivers is this a major ATI OpenGL problem or what? Chris |

Chris There an option in the game menu for different "types" of shadows, I seem to remember one looking very much worse than the other. |

I just checked. There's a tad bit of misdirection in some of the shadows.
But, not enough to really annoy me It seemed very minimal. I'm using the 3.6 Cat's on a 9700np. - Christian Atteneder stood up at show-n-tell, in , and said: There an option in the game menu for different "types" of shadows, I seem to remember one looking very much worse than the other. Yes, there are three types (None, Simple and Volumetric). It's the volumetric one that makes the problems. I switched back to simple shadows and now it is at least playable but it looks really bad for todays standards. Has anyone got the volumetric shadows in JK2 working with a Radeon and Catalyst? Betreff: Graphic problems with Catalyst 3.6 and OpenGL (Jedi Knight II) Datum: Freitag, 22. August 2003 14:39 I just checked. There's a tad bit of misdirection in some of the shadows. But, not enough to really annoy me It seemed very minimal. I'm using the 3.6 Cat's on a 9700np. Well, of course that a very personal opinion but it is annoying enough for me ;-) Especially in third person (light saber) mode the shadows on Kyle look awfull. Also shadows of enemies can be seen through walls or walkways (that's almost a way of cheating) so I had to switch to simple shadows. Let's wait for Cat 3.7 or higher. The only fear I have is that the problem will also exist in JK3 which is comming soon :-( Chris |

I want to play JK3 WITH volumetric shadows! Chris |
