Default IE6 and History

I know it's not exactly OT, but I'm sure someone has the answer here.

I have been running IE6 on a new XP PC (all the latest updates etc). Today I
wanted to go back to a previously visited web-site (which should be in my
history), but the history pane only displays the 'most visited' sites. If I
view the list be date, then there is nothing displayed. I have deleted the
history (then went and visited some more sites), but it's the same - no date
list.
Any suggestions? Ta.

I assume that you go to Pizza joints looking for spare tires as well?

Getting a spare tyre _is_ the effect of munching too many pizzas.

there's a whole bunch of settings for history retention under tools.
the help file is fairly useful to figure out what has to be set.
Incidentally if you want to make sure history files are deleted you
need tools designed for the job IE sort of lies a bit when it says
things are deleted in a lot of cases they just remained or compacted
to save space. The only sure file erasure is a very hot fire applied
vigorously to the hard drive.

Thanks for the reply. It wasn't really a matter of history retention, but
just being able to show the history sorted by date (which it can't do). I've
actually looked through the Microsoft knowledge base and I think I may have
an answer. Apparently, some Active-X anti-virus settings can stop the
history being displayed correctly. I'll play with my anti-virus settings and
see what happens.

You might find an answer in:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general or
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie6.browser or
microsoft.public.internetexplorer

Thanks. I found the answer on Microsoft's knowledge base. It _was_ my McAfee
Active-X anti-virus settings that were stopping it the sort-by-date history
list from working.
