P4T-E and the "Harware Monitor Found An Error" Problem
I built my system around an Asus P4T-E mobo almost exactly two years
ago, and it has given me good service ever since. I did have a problem with heat buildup in the case at first, but after rearranging cables that problem went away and I haven't thought of it since. But lately the system has begun behaving erratically -- unexpected shutdowns, not recognizing a drive on bootup, extremely slow opening folders on the same drive. At first I thought "heat" -- so I removed the side panel of the computer, and still had an unexpected shutdown later. Then I thought "drive going bad," as the drive wasn't recognized on bootup, so I replaced the drive and still had an unexpected shutdown later. But this morning, after an unexpected shutdown, on reboot I got the "Hardware monitor found an error" message, entered Setup, looked under Power, and found the 3.3V Voltage appearing in red and out of range. It should have said something like 3.3V, but instead it said 3.68V, and while I was watching it jumped to 3.71V and the system froze. I've done no overclocking at all. Could this have been caused by heat buildup, or is something else about to fail? Any ideas? I've removed the side panel again, and I've been using the computer all afternoon with no problems. -- Bill Anderson I am the Mighty Favog |

Check the power supply

You either have a bad motherboard or a bad power supply.

Sounds like your power supply is failing.

Thanks, Barry, and thanks to the others who replied. I've ordered a new
power supply -- PC Power and Cooling Silencer 400 ATX. My system has crashed twice this morning, both times due to the same high voltage problem. I've sprung for Fedex overnight. Hope this does the trick. Bill Anderson Barry Watzman wrote: Sounds like your power supply is failing.
