See through label CD-Rs have problems in older CD-ROM drives?

Is it me or do older CD-ROM drives have problems reading thse CD-R
brands (700 MB)? I noticed I can see through the CD if I hold it up
over a bright light. Is this why? Laser not being reflected correctly?

Any CDR that doesn't have an thick, opaque top layer (like some
printable CDRs) will let light shine through. Even the colored parts
of the Fuji TYs with the swirl designs let light through. For that
matter, even pressed CDs will let light through.

However, older drives can still have this problem, but it's more a
problem with the design of the older drives and compatability with
dye-based CDRs.

Unless you can see infr-red light rather than visible light, you cannot sort
CD-Rs by your ability to see through them.
