For people who read literally hundreds of postings a day, (as I do, on
several groups) top posting offers me a quick way to read the most
recent information in the thread, with minimal scrolling. If I need
further background information, I scroll further down and deeper into
the past. This system works very well for people like myself.

BTW, I am on numerous groups and lists where the vast majority of
responses are top posted, and no one says two words about it. Simply
put, the information is worthwhile reading, and so the content carries
the day regardless of how it is posted in regard to positioning.

I like the people that top post. I don't need to read through the same
copied text message after message.

That's why you should snip unneccessary stuff and not waste bandwidth by
sending the same old crap time after time

Go read

The news.newusers.questions FAQ http://www.plig.net/nnq/nquote.html
Proper quoting style explained http://www.uwasa.fi/~ts/http/quote.html

Top posting on some groups I read would result in you being well and truly
"flamed"

It's not nice to insult the other OEM shills.
