Upgrading from Ti4600 on an XP2100+
Which of the recent cards would give me boost in performance over the
Ti4600? Given the limitations of my system I'm assuming 9590U would be overkill |

No card.Stick with your ti4600
There is still no card capable of running games without a decent cpu. "Mal Franks" schreef in bericht t... Which of the recent cards would give me boost in performance over the Ti4600? Given the limitations of my system I'm assuming 9590U would be overkill |

When I bought my Ti4600 a few months ago I had a 2100+ Tbred running at 2266MHz in an Asus A7V133, 512Mb Crucial PC133. The 3DMark 2001SE score was just under 10,000. I switched the CPU to an Abit NF7-S v2 with 512Mb TwinMOS PC3200. It now runs at 11*215, around 100MHz higher, but this score has risen to 14,517 with core/memory at 300/650 and 15,301 with 320/735. The increased memory bandwidth made an improvement of over 50%. Regards, Tom |

Good upgrade is a $200~275 FX5900 (Non Ultra) online price - MSI has the best cooling... What limitations on your system? PIII-500Mhz? -- Remember when real men used Real computers!? However, I wonder whether the ti4600 that I already have is the best card for my current system or could I gain a little extra performance out of it via a slightly newer card. You could gain better performance at higher resolutions/antialiasing levels with a newer video card. Max framerate isn't everything about gaming, despite what the "twitch" shooter players want you to believe. Also, a decent DX9 card will run Doom3 faster than even the fastest DX8 card will, and Half-Life 2 will also likely run faster AND look better, whenever that game is released. |

Yes,you can get extra performance with a radeon 9800xt.
But is it worth it?No.Not for the money you have to pay for it. If you wait 6 months you can get real performance gain for the same price you are willing to pay now. So i would wait to see what nvidia and others have to offer then. Every videocard serves you approx 2 year(high end cards) Todays cards are already 1 year present or almost so you have 1 year left before you want to upgrade again.
