AMD or Intel
Hi,
Just about to upgrade my PC system. Always had AMD in the past, but thought about trying the 8KNXP board with a 2.6 processor. Most of what I have read lately points to the AMD processor for value and performance. I'm mainly working on Video, DVD and photo processing. Any Ideas? thanks al |

Hold off for a while and get one of the AMD64's when prices come down a bit,
the OS are more widely available, and designs stabilise (ha!). - Tim "alans220" wrote in message ... Hi, Just about to upgrade my PC system. Any Ideas? thanks al Just did the same deliberation and decided for the P4. Reason is what I want to do. The AMD can't touch the P4 when it comes to video encoding as in DivX if you have you have one of the processors with 800 MHz FSB and dual ported memory. It seems that regards the multimedia stuff the P4 has the edge al least that it what all the shoot outs of AMD 64 verses P4 3.2 have indicated. Also people in the doom9.net forums have commented on the speed of DivX encoding of the P4 versus the AMD. One2Go |

Wait until the 64 bit version of Windows ships later this year and the new boards based on the new socket for Prescott are released. Then, check out the online reviews, most notably Tom's Hardware, and see what happens. AMD64 is in its infancy and the 64 bit Windows is going to make all the difference in the world. Also, Prescott will ship with 64 bit extensions, but won't be enabled until the Grantsdale boards ship with the new socket. However, if you plan to use Intel chipset boards, be aware that they're ditching the AGP slot in favor of PCI Express. Therefore, if you plan to keep your existing video card, either look at something from VIA or SiS, or go AMD. -- Big Daddy Ruel Smith My SuSE Linux machine uptime: 4:00pm up 35 days 0:45, 2 users, load average: 0.67, 0.48, 0.39 My Windows XP machine uptime: Something less... |
