OmniPage/Nuance - How to submit crash/bug reports?
There doesn't seem to be any way to submit bug reports
for OmniPage 15 (or any other version) on the Nuance website. There seems to be only one option -- paid support at $9.95 per call. Is this really it? Do they not want to know about bugs in their products? -- Jim Garrison ) PGP Keys at http://www.jhmg.net RSA 0x04B73B7F DH 0x70738D88 |

Sadly, the words "support" and "Nuance" do not belong together. They have even gone so far as to shut down the self support bulletin boards for many products. If you can't find what you want in the KnowledgeBase, still there, amazingly, you would do better to visit the Yahoo group for OmniPage. Unlike the very active PaperPort group, it has little traffic, but it isn't quite dead. MK |

OmniPage/Nuance - How to submit crash/bug reports?
["Followup-To:" header set to comp.periphs.scanners.]

They probably don't want bug reports from ordinary users for a few reasons. 1) Many users can't put together a good bug report. 2) Making bugs public knowledge scares timid users. 3) Implementing a bug-tracking system takes time and resources. Depending on how large the company is, stupid politics may also play a role. What might help more is to describe the actions you take that reproduce this bug, and describe your machine and the scanner you're using. Something like "'DozeXP Service Hack 3, Epson 12345Z, when I open FooProgram, set resolution to 1200DPI, and do File-Acquire Image, it starts scanning and then segfaults." Maybe another user has had the same problem and knows of a workaround. (And that approach won't cost you $10.) HTH anyway, -- I find that having a pint or two is a good problem-solving technique. Especially if it's vodka rather than beer. --Peter Corlett in ASR Matt G|There is no Darkness in Eternity/But only Light too dim for us to see |

Omnipage 15 prompted me to install a Service Pack two days ago. I accepted, and now the program doesn't work at all. It gives a "General, Unspecified error" message when saving to a file, and crashes at other random places. I've posted a couple of screenshots at http://jhmg.net/misc/op/ I'm ready to uninstall and reinstall without the Service Pack. -- Jim Garrison ) PGP Keys at http://www.jhmg.net RSA 0x04B73B7F DH 0x70738D88 |
