Computer Powers Down - But does not Power Off
Has anyone seen this before?
My computer (running WinXP) goes through the shutdown cycle but will not self-power off ... it comes up with the "Now Safe to Power Down" message. Not big deal really. However, when it was running Windows ME (when I bought it 2 years ago) it *would* power-off completely. Another complication (and maybe a clue) is the connected hardware doesn't power down - Even when the power button is physically turned off - That is - The Mouse, the Keyboard, the Network Card still have power going to them - Even with the machine turned off. I figure it must be an incorrect wiring connection on the motherboard, but I don't know. Anyone got any clues? |

Right-click on the desktop area.
click properties click screensaver click power button click on the APM tab make sure it's check marked More than likely it's the power management feature turned off in XP. This happened to me too. In the same box, there's a Hibernate option too, but not all computers will have this. Do a couple of reboots to see if it kicks in. Hopefully this will be it! Good luck!
