Default p4c800-e deluxe random shutdowns

all,

first time build -- thought I was careful...

first power up, POSTed fine and I was damn near tears I was so happy. Then
fate stepped in. I have been getting random complete shutdowns and I cannot
understand why. I have tried two power supplies already with same results
(granted both were off brands). I went ahead today and bought an Antec
TruePower 430. I will try it as well, but I am expecting the same
troubles...

Here is the box:
P4C800-E Deluxe
BIOS 1014
P4 -- 2.8 -- 800FSB
Kingston 512MB -- kvr400x64c3a/512
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Liteon Burner Secondary Master
WD 80GB Primary Master
Hitachi 200GB Primary Slave
Floppy
One Rear Case Fan (4 led lighted one)
Side case fan

I have managed to actually install Win XP Home on the machine -- the
voltages in BIOS have checked out fine as far as I can tell.

Assuming the Antec 430w is not the solution - what should be the next step?

Thanks for all your help out there -- I think I am sooo close just need a
little more help!

JohnH

PS -- This was a motherboard bundle from Mwave.com --- mobo/cpu/mem and
tested.

I hope you get an answer to this question. I plan on
building a system almost exactly like yours. I will hold off
ordering the parts until your question is answered.

My P4C800E-D is very stable. No such problem.

It is quite sensitive, or picky, about components seating and how it is
mounted
on case plate. But once it boots, everything works fine for me.

This sounds like a memory problem. I don't think it has anything to do with
power supply.
Are you using just one stick of memory ? In that case, Why ?
You lose the benefit of dual ddr. It would be much better using two 256 MB
sticks in slot 1 and 3.
Of course the MB will work even with one stick too.
However, what you are describing is a typicle error with memory.

Hope this hint will help

Try other memory. I have a friend with an ASUS board that Kingston value ram
would not work in at all.

My system - -- - - -- - -- - -- -
Antec TruPower 480
P4C800-E Deluxe (BIOS 1014)
P4 2.8C
Kingston HyperX PC3500 1GB Dual Chan Kit
ATI AIW 9800 Pro
Liteon DVD-RW

Working great.

I had similar probs. Changed almost everything. Finally found that upping
the VCore voltage on the cpu sorted it. Dunno why.

I would also suggest that you try different RAM also; I'm currently
building a similar setup using Corsair memory:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=80097-17

Wow, memory prices have edged up for some reason (I paid $218.00 for
this exact same memory just last week...)

Another thing, what are your temps like? According to MBM:

http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

my idle temps a

mobo - 23 degrees C
CPU - 29 degrees C

Check the event logs for any device issues also (and Device Manager for
any improperly installed devices).

I haven't done any stress testing or installed any major apps/games but
this rig is rock solid thus far...I'm running Win2K Pro/SP4.

I do hope to add another stick of 512mb in the future -- figured this would
be a decent first step.

Uptime was over an hour and a half last night.

Two things changed:

1) installed new Antec TruePower 430
2) moved box to kitchen table

I will likely leave it on longer today and see what happens... I hope the
Antec really was the solution.

Thank you all for reading/responding to USENET!

All,

Sitting at 45 minutes in the computer room --- no shutdowns as of yet with
the new Antec in the original spot where all the shutdowns were occurring.

Kickass, score another one for Antec.

I got a TruePower 380S with my Sonata, what one you get?

That TruePower 550 makes me drool.
