(OT?) printer demands to be serviced and stops....
A new one on me.....
A friend tells me his Epson printer stopped (in the middle of a lengthy and time-critical print run) saying it was due for servicing, and refused to print another page. He had to buy a new one....not an Epson apparently :-) Anyone else heard of this apparent wheeze to jack up printer sales? -- Please use the corrected version of the address below for replies. Replies to the header address will be junked, as will mail from various domains listed at www.scottsonline.org.uk regards. Mike Scott Harlow Essex England.(unet -a-t- scottsonline.org.uk) |

There is a little ink pad inside epson printers, all he needed to do was undo the printer, remove this pad, clean or replace it, download some software called SSC service utility and use the function in that software to reset the protection counter, and his printer would have sprung into life again, alot of manufacturers are using things like this now, including cannon and HP, its a con but not a real con.... the ink pad in the printer absorbs any waste ink and if it done this indefinately sooner or later youd end up with a overflowing inky mess on your desk, thats why you have to change or clean it (service it) the con bit is it often tells you it needs servicing long before in reality it does. |

You might want to give the following software a try - http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml It can reset Epson print counts, and more. It's free, too :-) -- AZC |
