Default XP installation

Hi all,

I have a little problem, I have been playing around with ntfs on linux
recently, and drove myself into a few trubles.
Here are the facts:
- after playing with ntfs and wine on linux found that my FAT on my boot
disk was damaged.
- had to re-install my system, XP and FC6, but found that my FAT was again
damaged.
- Found that trying to install XP would scramble my FAT table, linux was ok.
- Changed CDROM with different XP but found that at the first screen where
it says that is checking the hardware would go blank and stay blank.
- Changed Hard Drive but same problem.
- Tested RAM with memtest86 and the RAM is ok.

So, I have Linux installing and running perfectly, and XP either scrambling
my FAT or not even installing at all.

Are there test utilities that would check for errors on my motherboard
(GA-M55plus-S3G)?

Has anyone any ideas?

many thanks
ivan

riformatted i use only ext3, otherwise i try to make more backups i can

I doubt that your motherboard is the source of your problem. I'd suggest
you fix the master boot record:

Fix MBR, Fix Boot - Boot the WinXP CD, go into repair console...this is the
first R. If allowed to proceed, it will reload all of the XP setup files
and wipe the updates in the process.
Type fixboot fixmbr from a command prompt and press enter to reboot.
