soundcard problems with Gigabyte K8VM800M
Hi,
I have noticed when I perform intenstive computations while I am listening to music (mp3), the sounds will skip and jump. This happens with both winamp and iTunes. I have noticed this happen with both the built-in soundcard on the motherboard and my own personal PCI sound card. I dont think this is something that is usual, I can't believe that people would put up with this from a computer. So I am assuming that I have some configuration set incorrectly. Does anyone else have similar problems? Is there anything you do something about it? Thanks in advance. Brett. --- AMD64 3200 processor 512 PC-3200 DDR RAM |

Usually these problems show if: 1) Bad IRQ sharing like sound irq shared with video card 2) DMA problem - ide driver not working correctly |

Well I checked and there doesn't seem to be any problems with conflicts on
the IRQ interrupts. What does IDE have anything to do with it? Both the sound cards that I tried are on the PCI bus. Am I missing something here? Brett. "SteveK" wrote in message ... Well I checked and there doesn't seem to be any problems with conflicts on the IRQ interrupts. It's not a matter of an irq conflict - it could be a share-load problem! What does IDE have anything to do with it? Both the sound cards that I tried are on the PCI bus. Am I missing something here? Brett. usually the music is played from a CD or HD - both are depending on a proper working ide/sata DMA bus. If the DMA is not working smooth enough it can cause sound skipping. U have all latest mobo drivers installed? http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard...A-K8VM800M.htm Have u disabled onboard sound in the bios? ..... |

I had that same problem, on an Asus board and SB Live. It was an IRQ
conflict. NO errors in windows, but random skips. I moved the card to another PCI slot, which (on that board) assigned a different IRQ, problems went away. Can you re-assign an IRQ thru the BIOS to something less used? "bigb" wrote in message ... Since I have a 3GHz 64-bit number cruncher installed and my old PCs haven't had problems like this, I'm assuming there's something else going on. What does IDE have anything to do with it? Yes, i've installed the latest drivers, and I tried uninstalling the onboard sound card too. I also tried moving the PCI slot and that didn't help, although the results were slightly different. Better for winamp upon minimisation. iTunes minimisation caused just as many glitches though. Brett. |
