Differences between Athlon XP 2600+ and Athlon XP 2800+
Hello,
I have an Athlon XP2600+ CPU in a NForce2 motherboard machine. I am a bit confused as to what type of CPU it is i.e."Barton" etc. The CPU is green in colour and has a 333MHZ fsb. The small print on the packaging says that it is also rated to run at 2083MHZ. I was thinking of upgrading this CPU to a faster processor and when I checked a retailer's web site, I noted that there was a Athlon XP 2800+ that also ran at the same clock speed (2083MHZ) as my 2600+. What is the difference between these two CPUs then? Is mine a Barton? Is it good for overclocking? Thanks Shane |

Thanks Ed. I thought the T-Bred was brown in color rather than the green
one I have. I vagually recall the retailer gave me the impression it was a 'barton' chip - frankly I just can't remember. I did have a system with an Athlon XP2400+ and it was a brown chip. Thanks, Shane "Ed" wrote in message ... On Tue, 10 Aug 2004 09:19:23 +1000, "no spam" wrote: Hello, I have an Athlon XP2600+ CPU in a NForce2 motherboard machine. Thanks Shane Only difference between the T-Bred 2600+ (2083MHz 166x12.5) and the Barton 2800+ (2083Mhz 166x12.5) is the Barton has 512K L2 cache and the T-bred has 256K L2 cache. Most of the AMD chips I've had will OC at least 150MHz with little effort. Ed |

The colour of the CPU substrate has no significance whatsoever.
Your CPU is a T'bred with 256L2 cache. As for of it will overclock... well your really the best one to tell us. Why don't you try? -- *****Replace 'NOSPAM' with 'btinternet' in the reply address***** "no spam" wrote in message u... Thanks Ed.
