Default video playback on 9700pro ? worse than nvidia ?

is there a way to obtain same quality in video playback (divx or xvid) on my
radeon 97000 pro ? a friend of mine has my old gf3 and the movie playback
seems much more better (sharper, clearer, etc...) despit he uses same player
and same codecs...

xp1800@ 2138; 5120 mb ram, 8ka3+, hercules 9700 pro, soundblaster 1024 live,
winxp pro sp1

thanks in advance

Including Service Pack 1? If you have that and all the latest drivers from
via and ATI, then no, it's probably not a driver problem. Could be a device
conflict. Does your video and/or sound card share any resources? If so,
try to manually assign them to different IRQ's. The sound card is the one
that could be causing the problem.

Definitely sounds like a driver problem. Make sure that your

motherboard
drivers are uptodate, particularly the AGP driver, and that you have the
latest catalyst driver for you video card and the latest version of

Direct
X
9.

How are you making the comparison? Side by side? Same movie player
software, with all the same settings? I have noticed no obvious
difference between my 9700 Pro and GF3 card with video playback. I
have not, however, made a scientific/determined comparison between the
two....
