Default GeForce 6500 Monitor wont come on

Hi,
I've built a new computer from scratch and have bought a GeForce 6500
as the graphics card. I have installed in in the PCI Express slot, but
when I power on the computer, the monitor won't power on.
Does anyone have any ideas why, this is still fairly new to me?
Thanks
Adam

What's your motherboard brand and model? Your power supply unit? CPU?
Do you get any beeps when it's first started? Do the cpu, PSU fans run? If
the video card has a fan does it run? There are a lot of things to look
at. Make sure your video card is in the correct slot if it's a PCI-e x16
SLI mobo AND make sure the 'switchplate' is installed and in the correct
orientation. Power supply cables all hooked up to where they need to go?
Does the video card require an external power plug? Is the monitor plugged
into the video card properly?
While building a PC up to a nice running rig from a box full of parts is
easy enough to do, there are a lot of things to pay attention to.
It may not be the video card that's the problem. CPU, RAM, PSU, mobo... any
one of these could be bad as well.
Get back with more info on WHAT parts you've used and how it's assembled,
then others will be able to give you more info as well.
McG.
