Default New Gfx card choice

My boss is giving me as a bonus, whatever Gfx card I want. (and no you can't
have my job )
This has come very unexpectedly and he needs and answer by tomorrow. Money
it seems is no object within reason.

I have looked at the FX5900 Ultra made by Asus, and read some extremely
differing views of performance. Some reviews say the 5900 is faster than ATI
9800 Pro, others the complete reverse.
Is there really any difference in manufacturers samples , or are they very
much the same?

Any help and guidance would really be appreciated.

My rig just now is
XP2000
640Mb Ram
4600Ti Leadtek
Soundblaster Live 5.1

Regards

Blakey

Take the ASUS card...why the hell not?, if you are getting it for free then
just take it. If you wanted to you could sell the Nvidia card and get an ATI
9800Pro.

Regardless the FX5900U is a great card and nothing to be looked down upon.

I bought my Leadtek 5900U after seeing reviews with it on top, then
afterwards heard all the bad, expecially on tomshardware.com
communities. I felt like I had made a mistake untill I caught myself on
realising that when actually playing the game I bought it for at the
time (Battlefield 1942) it screamed along DESPITE what half the people
were saying about slowness in that particular game. I use on max
settings and 1280x1024 with AA and AF.

Benchmarks are fun and somewhat useful but to live by them is pointless.
I'm not saying everyone else is wrong, but I think my 5900U is great.
