Default Driver issues - GeForce 6200

This has only cropped up in the last week. My drivers (ForceWare 84.21) are
getting corrupted on rebooting somehow and as a result I can't run anything
that uses Direct3D or OpenGL (2D stuff is fine).

I get this on running the Direct3D tests in dxdiag:

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT =
0x887602eb (error code)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT =
0x8876086a (3D not available)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT =
0x8876086a (3D not available)

Uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the drivers fixes the problem, but
on the next reboot it happens again. Obviously I can't go uninstalling and
reinstalling my drivers on a daily basis, so I'm hoping someone here either
knows how to fix this problem or knows someone who does.

A Google search has turned up little of use and most of it's in Spanish or
German...

System specs:
AMD Sempron 3300+
Motherboard: Elitegroup K8M800-M2 (as reported by SiSoft Sandra)
1Gb PC3200 RAM
256Mb (reported) Geforce 6200 (84.21 Forceware drivers)
XP Professional, SP2

Have had this PC for 9-10 months and not had any graphics card issues until
this last week.

It all started after a reboot following some Microsoft Updates, but those
were for Office so I don't see any connection.

Thanks in advance

there are cleaners that will remove all the old driver stuff. you
probably have left-over that reassert themselves on the reboot.

1. Uninstall video drivers.
2. Reboot to safe mode and run the cleaner.
3. Install new driver.

If that doesn't take, you have something really old that you'll either
have to track down based on the card you had it before or do a clean
install of Windows.

I was hoping not to have to reinstall Windows, I did so only a few weeks
ago. The PC came with the card so there's nothing hanging around from any
previous ones... I'll give the cleaner a try though.
