Default Windows 98 video driver for nvidia NV44

I am trying to get Widows 98SE to run on a system with an NV44
integrated graphics chip. Sadly NVIDIA do not provide a driver for
W98SE (I get a PCI ID error), even though it is a cut down 6200 where
they do provide a driver. So I am stuck with the default VGA of 16
colours and 640x480 resolution. I can do better than this with Linux.
Any suggestions for a work round?

Sorry I can't help you, but try posting in alt.computer.drivers.wanted -
they seem to be very good at finding rare drivers.

Did you try slipping in the 98 disk, or C:\Windows\Options\Cabs?

Did you try DriverGuide.com?

Sucks when you can't find a driver...

nVidia does not provide Win98/ME drivers for any of the nForce4 chipset
variants. Check with your motherboard manufacturer's web site, though it's
unlikely they'll have anything, either.

Chalk it up to insufficent research before purchase...

The cutoff point for nVidia chipsets and Win98SE seems to be the nForce
3 250. The other limiting factor is PCI-Express which is not supported
by Win98SE.

Win2k or yuk, XP!

Chas.

Henry, I had to install new nVidia driver and the one that worked for me
was:-

nVidia_Detonator_44.03_win9x_international.exe

which I found hidden on the nVidia site, I think.

And if it's not there, I'm almost certain that it's on DriverGuide.com

You had this working with nVidia NV44 integrated graphics (nForce4 6100,
etc.)? That's hard to believe, especially when the driver predate the
chipset by about two years...

Anyway, it's not "hidden" on the nVidia site. The link is:
http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/4...ernational.exe
Keep in mind it will most likely poison your system...

nVidia's packaged drivers in *.exe files will not work because they
refuse to identify the chipset and build any actual drivers. I have
nVidia's drivers for Windows XP (which would work if I installed XP
but I don't want to) and nVidia's drivers for Windows 98 (which won't
do anything with this chipset). Much as Chas and First of One had
predicted.

But since a three-year old Linux CDrom can do much better than this, I
had wondered if there was something more generic available for Windows
98. Sadly it seems not.

I even have an eight year old spare PCI video card which seems to
refuse to do anything until I can get the onbord graphics above 16
colours.
