Question I have is Whether to get the

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W
Dual-Core Processor

or

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W
Dual-Core Processor

Seems the slower of the two is more popular.

For the current price difference of $10, get the faster one. popularity is
often inversely proportional to cost.

Looking at it yes it seems your suggested CPU's require AM2+ socket
My MB is AM2. Have been away from building machines for some time but
i suspect they are pinned different.

According to the ASUS website (if I've got the right board!) they should
work with a BIOS update

They should also overclock to a higher speed than the 6400 can reach (but
don't quote me on that!)

Update just researched and discovered the AM2 and AM2+ are
interchangable

Yes. I could use 7750BE with my older Asus M2N-E motherboard after BIOS
update.

But i must add that im not a fan of overclocking and your suggested
CPU's run slower then the ones i am asking about.

You don't have to overclock your 7750BE/7850BE. It's just an option.

but its a $9 diff now guess ill go with the 6400

1) it'll run hot, make sure you have good case and cpu cooling.

2) it'll want very good quality memory.

I'm not being narrow minded. If i have already researched and decided
what direction i wish to go then i feel its best to keep the thread
from turning into an alternate selection suggestion thread like some
become.

And if you weren't so focused on viewing me as narrow minded you would
have noted that the people that wish to help did so and i thank them
for that.
