nVidia 6800 Ultra problems with Half-Life 2
For those using the following graphic card :
- nVidia 6800 Ultra you may have found, while playing Half-Life 2 (HL2 HalfLife 2), that you encounter the following problems during gameplay : - system reboot ... - system crash ... - ... while playing, during gameplay - ... after loading a level (map) The following "fix" will NOT stop at 100% your computer to crash or stop responding, BUT, it will dramaticly reduce the number of system crashed/reboot. The fix is simple : Install nVidia drivers version 66.72. While writing this post, nVidia latest driver release are version 66.93. If you see 66.94 or later, try them before trying 66.72. My graphic card is made by Asus. i found that the latest drivers version on their website was 66.72. I installed 66.72 and i can say that instead of crashing after each 2 "loading" message, i crash after each, let say 15 "loading" message. The drivers version 66.72 reduce the number of crashes/freezes, but you may still encounter the following : - While using the gravity gun, you will see a big.. ugly square. Just wait for the next map and it will be fixed by itself.. or reload a savegame. - Your computer may freeze for about 10 seconds and you may see "behind the walls". You can't move while this happen. Just wait a few second. - Your computer may freeze after loading a map. Give it a chance again... wait a few second. |

Odd, I dont see anyone else having this problem in forums.. perhaps its your
copy of HL2 - there was some issue with a 'fix' required a little while ago. Steam does it automatically. Ive never had a problem with HL2 of any description, using a 6800u and latest drivers (as well as lesser ones before I updated). So check for game file updates in Steam, might be the problem. wrote in message oups.com...
