Default Geforce FX 5700 Ultra or FX 5900

My gfx card just died. Its a Leadtek A350 TDH LX 5900. ( Not Ultra ).
I think the LX is a cut down version with 2.8ns 700mhz ram. I used to
get 10800 ish on 3dmark01se and just over 5000 on 3dmark03.

For the replacement i can either get another of the leadtek cards
mentioned above, or i have seen some fairly cheap FX 5700 ultra cards.
These have 900Mhz DDR2 ram and 400mhz ramdac. Are these faster than
the 5900 LX i used to have? Please bear in mind my sys spec as below

athlon xp 2400+ 266fsb
512mb pc2100 266mhz ddr ram
ecs k7s5a mobo
audigy2 zs
160gb hdd 7200rpm

Any advice appricated as the old gf 4mx im using at the min is crap!!!

regards

paul

The 5900's are faster, even the slower ones.

Ive pretty much decided on the 5700 ultra as it runs at 475/900 and it
had ddr II ram. copare this with the 400/700 of the lx 5900 im
replacing or even 400/850 of the 5900 i have seen and im almost
convinced that the 5700 ultra will be faster. also bear in mind that
the 5900 lx has 2.8 ns ram. what speed is the 5700 ultras ram?

If your heart is set on a 5700 Ultra, rather then a 5900 XT-SE,
you could try to get one with the 500/950 specs.

You haven't learned that MHz doesn't mean everything. hello? AMD -
Intel's own Centrino CPU? AMD's 2.0Ghz 64bit CPU is faster than P4
3.0Ghz chips.... Intel's Celeron 2.6Ghz isn't even close to touch a
1.4Ghz AMD, much less a 1.8Ghz P4.

One of the TOP video cards on the market (ATI 9800PRO) has a default
Mhz of 680 - maybe 700Mhz.

Read this review... theres a REASON people say buy the 5900XT over the
5700Ultra... unless the 5700 is really cheap (Like $150 or less).

5700 = 4x1 pipes / 128bit / 425/900Mhz
5900 = 8x1 pipes / 256bit / 300/700Mhz

The 5900xt has it where it counts.

here it is:

A bit the same like Ati 9500 Pro versus Ati 9600 Pro/Xt, the 9500 Pro
has 8x1 while the 9600 Pro/Xt has only 4x1, thus the 9600 Pro/Xt has
to run MUCH faster to get about the same performance.

I still like to read reviews..after all I know my 9500 Pro has about
the same performance as the 9600xt...he..funny things.

Yup the 5900 is faster...even if clocked slower!
