Low 3DMark03 with MSI FX5900
With the system below, I get a 3DMARK3 (Build 340) score of 4540
(53.03 drivers) at standard clocks (400/850), which seems to be rather low. At the highest stable OC (425/925), I get 4790. Any tips, suggestions or comments? Thanks in advance. On a system I worked on, I got 4901 on an FX5900(plain) MSI card (almost like yours). Not Overclocked. AMD XP2000 (1.68Ghz) with 512mb Single channel RAM (PC2700) WindowsXP. So perhaps you have other issues? Spyware? Adware? too much crap running on your system. Go into services and shut down some crap. Locate a program called: "spybot Search and destroy" - 100% free. -- Remember when real men used Real computers!? When 512K of video RAM was a lot! Death to Palladium & WPA!! |

He is also Running Win2K that that does not support Hyper Threading.. Although Intel do not list Windows 2000 as supported for Hyperthreading, it does in fact work fine. Windows 2000 Pro will handle 1 CPU with Hyperthreading (due to it's support for up to 2 processors), and Windows 2000 Server will handle a dual processor system (so it sees 4 processors). The main difference between that and Windows XP is that XP only counts physical processors against it's limit, therefore Windows XP Pro is able to make use of a dual processor system with HT where Windows 2000 Pro would only use the first 2 logical processors, ignoring the 2 additional processors revealed by the HT technology, and so in this case it would be better to disable HT so that the 2 processors are running normally and not reserving resources for handling requests to the 2 logical processors that will never get used. Netware and Linux will also handle hyperthreading. It's possible that better performance may be seen if HT is disabled on the PC. Win2K was never ever meant for games at all. True, although it runs all the games I play fine Dan |
