BIOS Clock extremely slow and getting worse :(
Aikon wrote:
Hello all! In the last few weeks I've noticed the system clock on my computer is getting slower and slower... The time is fine once I correct it and leave my system running in Windows. It's when I turn my PC off and back on at a later time in the day that I find the clock is way behind. I must state that I know Windows ME *ISN'T* to blame as I went into the BIOS and set the correct time, saved the settings then turned my PC off without going into ME. An hour later I turned on my PC and went straight into the BIOS and found that only 5 minutes had passed according to the computer. At first I thought it was the battery... But having replaced it with a new one the problem still exists... I've had a look at some archived Usenet messages on google and I'm thinking it's a motherboard problem. My motherboard is a Chaintech CT-7VJL Apogee which I only brought last year lol... Now I don't really wanna buy a new motherboard just coz of the clock. I've read a few posts that suggests replacing the Quartz crystal (like the ones in digital watches)... Just wondering if it's possible to replace by myself? Any ideas/advice please? You don't have many options here. I would suggest switching out the battery one more time, and if that doesn't work, you have two choices ... 1. You can buy another motherboard, but to fix the clock alone, that probably isn't worth it. 2. Download one of those atomic clock update programs and set it to update your system clock every five minutes. -- Usenet is a strange reality where you see people beating up a patch of grass where nine years ago there used to be a horse. -Nuke |
