Default x800xl slow memory clock?

Just bought a Gigabyte radeon X800XL and on the website it was advertised as
memory clock at 900 MHz. After all is installed I check in the catalyst
control center and it says the memory clock is at 493MHz. How can this
be?

Since the memory is DDR (or GDDR3), it looks like CCC is reporting the
actual clock speed of 493 MHz, which is 986 MHz effective. This matches a
review by Gruntville, which I found after Googling:
http://www.gruntville.com/reviews/vi...00xl/page2.php

The 900 MHz advertised by Gigabyte online is conservative. What does it say
on the box?
