8ge667 dimm problem
I've got a rock solid system with an 8ge667. It's got a 512 DDR333 dimm in
it. I attempted to add another 512 dimm (same manufacturer... Kingston, same speed, same timings, although it doesn't look identical... there's some capacitors in different places etc.), and now my PC hangs before it even gets through the POST. I pulled the new RAM out, and it boots fine again. I swap the new and old DIMMs, so just the new one is in, and it boots fine. I tried both DIMM slots 1 and 2, and 1 and 3, neither work. Any suggestions? Both are dual sided, but according to the manual, that shouldn't be a problem. I've only got another day before I can't return the new dimm, so please answer quickly! |

Try manually adjusting the memory frequency down one notch to 266MHz. Get Memtest86 to test it rather than repeatedly trying to boot to Windows and potentially corrupting the installation. |

Thanks...
I tried that (mem freq to 266MHz), and a few other things in the BIOS, nothing seemed to help. It won't even POST, so running memtest86 (which I do normally do), is out of the question. I think my motherboard is defective. I've seen reports in this newsgroup from people having the same problem with the same board. Unfortunately, it's off warrantee now, so I think I'm out of luck.
