Default "desk.cpl" error when trying to use refresh override.

Whenever I try to use the refresh override with the 45.23 drivers, I get the
error:

"An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel file
C:\WINNT\System32\desk.cpl"

I've read numerous other reports of this, but I have been unable to remedy
the situation. I tried deleting a key in the registry as suggested in a
couple posts, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, etc., but the
problem remains. Does anybody have any more recent information on this?
The posts that refer to the SPECIFIC situation I'm seeing (i.e. where the
message comes up when trying to use the refresh override) don't refer to a
specific fix, but they do confirm that this is not unique to my system.

Thanks for any assistance with this,

Larry

try this... worked for me

Tip #1 : Display properties crashing

In case your display properties don't work any more and crash with some
'DESK.CPL' error after installing the NVidia stereo driver, you have
encountered a conflict between the stereo driver and the international
language dialogue libraries from the Detonator driver :

Mainly the WDHL and the officially released drivers come with international
language dialogue libraries, which install as NVRS*.DLL into the
Windows\System folder. Just delete all of them, and display properties
should be OK (but now only in English).

I don't have any nvrs*.* files on the system at all -- I searched the whole
drive, not just the system and system32 folders.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again,

Larry

I've had this happen with some Detonator releases. No fix for me but to
use a different set of drivers.
Newer isn't always better IMHO.
