Default "force detect TV" reg key ?

there used to be a reg key that would force the detection of a TV and save
me having to go through display properties to get it going every time the
computer was rebooted. but i can't find it on the web any more.

anyone know if this trick still works?
and what the correct entry is?

i'm useing XP with a TI4200 (PNY crap)

TIA tim
