Default FYI: 32 bt Win XP printer driver on 64 bit Windows Vista

I asked the following question:

Folks

Ok, so I'm setting up a laptop at a clients system. He has a Lexmark
E210 laser printer on a Win XP tower system to which he wants to print
from his shiny new, as of today, 64 bit Windows Vista laptop.

However the latest printer drivers available are for Win XP and Win
2003 Server.

Two separate issues here.

32 bit driver on a 64 bit system
Win XP driver on a Windows Vista system.

Any suggestions?

Then I found the following answer

"Under's OpenPrinting.org entry on the Lexmark E210, it's tagged that
the printer is likely to be a relabeled Samsung ML-4500 printer. In
fact, under Linux they both use the same SmartGDI driver.

Lexmark hasn't provided any 64-bit drivers for the E210 and they have
left it off their compatibility lists, so in desperation I tried out
Samsung's Vista drivers for the ML-4500. Lo an behold, they work like
a charm!

So folks, if your manufacturer doesn't provide a 64-bit Vista driver
for your printer, check out OpenPrinting.org to see what other
printers people have discovered to be compatible with yours since most
of the printing support in Linux has had to be reverse engineered in
the first place."
