Default What the....?? (XPS Studio 8100 Pricing Issue)

If I configure an XPS Studio 8100 on the Dell Site thusly:

Intel® Core™ i7-860 processor(8MB Cache, 2.80GHz)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs
No Monitor
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5
1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
16X DVD+/-RW Drive
No speakers

The price is $1,388.99 AFTER a $179 discount.

If I go to Microcenter.com and buy an almost exact copy, the cost is
$999.99.

http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0337324

What's up with that?

reminds me of the day my laptop arrived and there was an ad from costco
touting the exact setup for $200 less.

In Australia, if you want a second HD for your computer, Dell charge 400%
over what you pay for the same HD from the local shop. Dell has done this
for the last few years. Dell used to charge double for RAM, but not anymore.

dell prices are all over the map. you can probably configure that same
system for a dozen different prices on dell.com alone. and with the use
of dell's random coupons you can certainly do better than the 1388
price. one thing to note about the microcenter offering is that it is
'in store pickup' only. and it is a good value so if this is what you
are looking for and you are near one of their stores then snap it up.

you can configure your same system on dell home for $1128 and then apply
a stackable coupon code HKV$VFLSQZ$PLG for an addition $90 off (studio
system over $1099, expires october 28) by starting here...
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...tudio-xps-8100
free shipping. but it takes dell two weeks to build a new machine and
then you have to wait for it while it ships. microcenter has them in
stock for take home today.

I am about 10 miles from one of their stores. Just have to talk myself
into parting with a thousand bucks when my old Dell is working just
fine for my purposes. In other words, I want rather than need, a new
computer.

To add even more 'confusion', with an EPP discount:
