It's said that LCD are much easier on eyes than CRTs because there is no
flickering going on. What about notebook TFT screens? Does notebook
TFT screen create less eye strain than LCD?

A TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screen _IS_ an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).
TFT merely describes one of the technologies used to implement an LCD.
Ancient notebook, expecially the cheaper variety, sometimes used LCDs which
were not TFT and these commonly suffered from narrower viewing angles and
inferior contrast but virtually all new notebooks seem to be using TFT.
Whether LCDs are easier on the eyes than CRTs is certainly subject to
interpretation. A CRT using a relatively high vertical scan rate and/or
long-persistance phosphors will not have detectable flickering and will
probably have higher contrast and better black levels that might make for a
better viewing experience.
