Putting together new AMD comp. Need help..
I am putting together new comp for a friend of mine and since he is not
that good with computers I want to build something STABLE for him. So any advice on a nice, stable motherboard. Computer will be mostly used for surfing and some playing (not often though) as well as DVD watching and surfing. I do want to get Nforce4 motherboard as it will provide some uppgrade path later on. Any sugestions on a good 6600GT card to go along with it ? My current choices a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe nForce4 Asus A8V-E Deluxe K8T890 Microstar K8N Neo4 Diamond nForce4 Also if you could point out what wattage Power supplie should I use ? Since high powered power supplies (over 400 Watts) are kinda expensive around here(Sweden) I was thinking of using something around 350 too 400 watts. Will it be enough, considering that computer will NOT be overclocked and will only have one SATA HD, Geforce 6600GT and one DVD burner ? Any sugestions for a good QUIET cpu cooler ? Any advice is welcome. Der Steppenwolf |

Like Aspire 520 Watt, it costs about 600 kronor at www.datorbutiken.com/se Get the SLI-board especially if you go with 6600 GT. That allows you to run with TWO video cards and gain 80% performance. 2 6600 GT performs a little better than one 6800 GT in lots of games. Good quiet cooler = Thermalright XP-120 or Zalman alcu 7000. |

The Nforce 4 boards require a 24 pin power connector instead of the std 20 pin.
Also the PS needs a 12V rail that supplys at least 24 amps. |

How about Nforce 3 boards?

How about Nforce 3 boards? The chipset has nothing to do with it. It's strickly a new standard and NF4 boards could just as well be built with the standard ATX connector. The 24pin connector just adds 1 more extra lead for ground, +3v, +5v, and +12v. The pinout for the first 20 pins of the 24pin connector are indentical to the 20 pin connector. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.htm |
